What to Expect

This will be the one-stop shop for all things Matt Kollock-related. Music will be the focal point here, as it is in my life. But I’ll also be blogging regularly, sharing upcoming performance dates, posting photos and linking to my vast library of recorded performances on YouTube. I’m also going to sell some merch here. We’re talking T-shirts, hats, buttons, stickers, shoelaces, bookmarks, pens and basically any kind of tchotchke I can put my name on that I think someone might want to buy.

Why I Make Music

I make music because I feel like I have no choice. If I didn’t make music, that would just be stupid. I spent a lot of time in my life — too much time, really — not making any music. I believed what others told me about the pursuit; that it was something I could make time for in my spare moments, but it should not be a priority.

Lately I’ve changed my mind. Now I’m all like, “fuck that!” So I’m making up for lost time. And I think I can turn it into a career. There’s a middle ground between starving artist and Beyoncé. That’s the area I’m hoping to occupy with this endeavor. I want to build a community around my music. I want people to hear my music on TV shows, in movies and in advertisements and all the other places where songs can be heard. There is no selling out. There is only exposure and the spreading of my message. And I think there are enough people out there who will be into my whole vibe and my whole deal that I can support myself.

I just don’t want to do real work anymore. I am not cut out for it. Trust me; you don’t want me doing that kind of shit. It’s like expecting your dog to drive your car. I should be doing what my talents dictate and what the gravity of my ambition pulls me toward. So that’s what I’m going to do. And this website is epicenter of it all. And your dog should not be driving; they should be running and playing and napping and eating treats and fetching stuff.

I recognize that I’m in quite the privileged position to be considering any of this realistically. I get it. And I’m grateful.

But it’s not about me (or your dog). It’s about connecting with each other through the medium of music and spreading groovy vibes. I want people to find liberation in the groove. I want people to forget everything and bob their heads. I want people to clap (on two and four, thanks) and sing along. I want people to come together around music like it’s a bonfire that burns all the badness in their lives. And I want to mobilize the community around my music to do good things.

Yeah, I’m ambitious and maybe even delusional, but why not? We all die for crying out loud! There’s no time to be sensible or cautious.

What My Music Is About

Death. My music is mostly about death. But with a fun, modern spin! It’s not dreary or sad or nihilistic. It’s about death as the gift that gives meaning to life.

My music is also about love, spirituality and the psychedelic experience. Hippy shit, basically.

My music may not be for everyone, but it’s about everyone.

How You Can Help Me

Well, you’re here, and that’s awesome. Very helpful, actually. So keep on coming back. Bookmark this site. Link to it from your website. Stuff like that.

Here are some other helpful things you can do:

  • Subscribe to my YouTube channel
